Your adventure begins as we journey south from Fez, winding through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our first stop is Ifrane, a charming alpine-style town often called the “Switzerland of Morocco.” Soon after, we’ll enter the ancient cedar forests of Azrou, where you can meet and photograph the playful Barbary macaques in their natural habitat.
After passing through the mountain hub of Midelt, we’ll descend into the breathtaking Ziz Valley, a lush oasis of palm groves. From there, we continue to the Sahara, where upon arriving in Merzouga, you’ll be welcomed with traditional mint tea before settling into your hotel at the edge of the golden dunes.
After breakfast, you’ll delve into the soul of the Sahara with a day of exploration. We’ll visit a local Gnawa village to experience their spiritual music and unique way of life, then explore the historic Miffis mines that once supplied the region. Venturing further, we’ll share mint tea with a local nomadic family to learn about their traditions.
In the afternoon, return to your hotel for a brief rest before the highlight of your day begins. You will mount your camel and journey across the spectacular sea of dunes of Erg Chebbi, pausing to watch a breathtaking sunset. Your trek leads you to a traditional Berber camp for a delicious dinner, the beat of drums, and an unforgettable night under a blanket of brilliant stars.
Wake before dawn to witness a magical sunrise, as the first light crests over the dunes and casts incredible colors across the landscape. After breakfast at the camp, we depart for Tinghir and the dramatic Todra Gorge—Morocco’s highest and narrowest canyon. Here, you can enjoy a walk along the cool riverbed, surrounded by towering red rock walls. After savoring lunch at a local restaurant, our journey continues along the famous “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs” to the picturesque Dades Valley, where you will spend the night in a hotel nestled within the dramatic gorge.
After breakfast, your return journey to Fez begins. We will travel back through the lush palm groves and make a stop for a final panoramic view over the stunning Ziz Valley. Heading north through Midelt, you may see nomadic communities with their traditional goat-hair tents dotting the landscape.
A final stop in the cedar forests offers another chance to see the Barbary macaques, followed by a relaxing coffee break in the charming town of Ifrane. You will arrive back in Fez in the late afternoon, concluding an incredible 4-day adventure filled with desert landscapes, cultural encounters, and lasting memories.
