Day-by-day itinerary
Marrakech to Ouzoud and back
We drive northeast from Marrakech into the Middle Atlas foothills to the Ouzoud Waterfalls, where the Oued El Abid drops roughly 100 meters over a series of cascades — one of the more dramatic natural sights within day-trip range of the city. Paths lead down through olive terraces for closer views of the falls, and a resident population of Barbary macaques is often seen along the gorge. There's time to walk as far down as you're comfortable with, and an optional boat ride passes beneath the falls for a different vantage point, before the drive back to Marrakech.

Frequently asked questions
How much walking is involved?
The paths down to the base of the falls are unpaved and fairly steep in places — comfortable shoes are recommended, and you can go as far down as you're comfortable with.
Will we definitely see the macaques?
They're a wild population that's regularly seen around the gorge, but sightings aren't guaranteed on any given day.
Is this trip worth it in the dry season?
The falls run year-round, though they're fullest after winter rains — your driver-guide can tell you what to expect for your travel dates.
Is this a private tour?
Yes — a private vehicle and driver-guide for the day, with pickup from your Marrakech hotel or riad.
How long is the drive to Ouzoud?
Around three hours each way, so this is a fuller day than some of our other Marrakech day trips — plan for an early pickup.
Is the boat ride worth the extra cost?
It's a short ride that passes right beneath the falls for a different angle and a bit of spray — worth it if you don't mind getting a little wet, optional if you'd rather stay dry.
Is this suitable for older travelers or young children?
The paths down to the falls are unpaved and steep in sections, so anyone with mobility concerns can view the falls from higher up without descending all the way — let us know when booking if that matters for your group.
Is lunch included, and where would we eat?
Lunch isn't included, but there are cafés and small restaurants right by the falls with terrace views over the cascades if you'd like to eat there.
What is included in the Ouzoud Falls day trip from Marrakech?
A private vehicle and driver-guide for the day, with pickup and drop-off at your Marrakech hotel or riad. Lunch and the optional boat ride beneath the falls are paid on the spot.
