Day-by-day itinerary
Arrive Casablanca
Airport pickup, with an optional visit to the Hassan II Mosque — one of the largest mosques in the world and one of the few in Morocco open to non-Muslim visitors — depending on arrival time and prayer schedules.
Casablanca to Chefchaouen
We drive north via Rabat, stopping to see the Hassan Tower and the Kasbah of the Udayas, before continuing to Chefchaouen for the night, known for its blue-washed medina lanes.
Chefchaouen to Fes
We visit Volubilis, the best-preserved Roman ruins in Morocco, and Meknes, known for its monumental Bab Mansour gate, on the way to Fes.
Fes medina
A guided walk through the Fes el-Bali medina with a local guide — genuinely useful here, since it's one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world. Expect stops at historic madrasas and the Chouara leather tanneries, where hides are still dyed by hand in stone vats.
Fes to Merzouga
We climb into the Middle Atlas and cross toward the Sahara, arriving in Merzouga by late afternoon at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Camels take over for the roughly hour-long ride into the dunes for sunset, followed by dinner and the night at a desert camp; pack a warm layer, since nights get cold fast even after a hot day.
A day around Merzouga
Sunrise over the dunes and breakfast at camp, then a slower day exploring the desert around Merzouga with your driver-guide. The night is at a riad in Merzouga, or back at the desert camp if you prefer.
Merzouga to Dades Valley
An early climb for desert sunrise, then a drive through Todra Gorge, where canyon walls rise roughly 300 meters above the valley floor, on to the Dades Valley, known for its dramatic eroded rock formations.
Dades Valley to Ouarzazate
We follow the "Route of 1000 Kasbahs," the valley road lined with old fortified earthen structures once used to guard the region's harvests, to Ouarzazate, a town built up around Morocco's film industry.
Ouarzazate to Taroudant
We drive through Taliouine, one of the world's saffron-growing centers, to Taroudant, a walled town often described as a quieter, less-visited counterpart to Marrakech, with its own intact ramparts and medina.
Taroudant to Essaouira
We continue via Agadir, a modern beach city on the Atlantic coast, to Essaouira, whose UNESCO-listed medina and sea-facing ramparts make for a very different coastal stop.
Essaouira to Marrakech
We drive through argan forests — the argan tree grows wild only in this part of Morocco — on the way to Marrakech.
Marrakech sightseeing
A guided day around the Saadian Tombs, a royal necropolis rediscovered after decades sealed off; the Majorelle Garden, a landscaped garden in vivid cobalt blue once owned by Yves Saint Laurent; the Bahia Palace, known for its carved cedar ceilings; and Jemaa el-Fna, the main square that turns into food stalls and performers by evening.
Marrakech at leisure
A free day — a good point to add an optional activity such as a hammam visit, a cooking class, or simply more time in the souks, or to revisit anything from the previous day at a slower pace.
Marrakech to Casablanca
Return drive to Casablanca.
Departure
Airport transfer.

Frequently asked questions
What makes Taliouine and Taroudant worth the extra days?
Taliouine is one of the world's saffron-growing centers, and Taroudant's walled medina is a quieter, less-visited counterpart to Marrakech's — both add a different pace to the second half of the trip.
Can this be shortened to skip the far south?
Yes — dropping Taliouine, Taroudant, and Agadir brings you back to a route close to our 12-day Casablanca itinerary.
Is this a private tour?
Yes, fully private for all 15 days — our longest Casablanca itinerary, but still your own vehicle, driver-guide, and pace throughout.
Is the camel trek and desert camp included?
Yes — one night at a Berber-style desert camp near Merzouga with a sunset camel trek in, included on day 5.
What is day 13, the free day in Marrakech, actually for?
It's unstructured time built into the itinerary specifically so a long trip like this one doesn't feel rushed — a good day for an optional hammam visit or cooking class, or just revisiting the souks at a slower pace.
Is this trip suitable for older travelers or families?
Given its length, the main considerations are stamina for two weeks of consecutive travel and comfort with medina walking — the built-in free day in Marrakech helps break up the pace, which makes this one of our more forgiving longer itineraries.
What should we pack for a route through the desert, saffron country, and two coastlines?
Layers throughout given how much ground this route covers, comfortable shoes for the medinas of Fes, Taroudant, and Essaouira, and sun protection for the desert and Agadir legs.
Are entrance fees and lunches included?
No — entrance fees to monuments and museums, lunches, and drinks are excluded throughout; breakfast and dinner are included daily.
