Your journey into the Sahara begins with a morning departure from Fes. Our route takes us south, ascending into the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains. We will pause in the cedar forests of Azrou to observe the native Barbary macaque monkeys in their natural habitat.
For lunch, we will stop in Midelt, a town nestled between the Middle and High Atlas ranges. As our adventure continues, the landscape transforms as we descend into the lush Ziz Valley, a stunning oasis of palm groves and fortified villages. Upon arrival in Merzouga, you will check into your hotel for the evening, resting on the edge of the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes.
After breakfast, a 4×4 vehicle will take you on an immersive exploration of the Sahara. The day includes a visit to the village of Khamlia to experience the powerful spiritual music of the Gnawa people and an opportunity to share mint tea with a nomadic family in their traditional tent, offering a glimpse into their resilient way of life. After returning to Merzouga for lunch, you will prepare for the quintessential desert experience. An early start is rewarded with the breathtaking sight of the sunrise over the vast, silent dunes. After your camel trek back to Merzouga for breakfast and a refreshing shower, we begin our return journey to Fes. Our route includes stops in Rissani, home to one of the region’s largest traditional markets, and Erfoud, a town renowned for its unique fossil workshops.
The drive continues north, crossing back through the Middle Atlas Mountains with a final lunch stop in Midelt. You will arrive back in Fes in the late afternoon, where your memorable desert adventure concludes.
