Day-by-day itinerary
Errachidia to Merzouga
Your driver-guide meets you at Errachidia airport or at your hotel in town, and we head south along the Ziz River, where the road follows a long ribbon of palm groves through otherwise bare, stony country. We pass through Erfoud, a town known for its fossil workshops, and reach Merzouga, where the vehicle stops and the camels take over. The ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes takes roughly an hour and is timed for sunset, when the sand turns from gold to deep orange. Dinner is at the desert camp, usually with music around the fire afterwards. Nights out here get cold quickly, even after a hot day, so keep a warm layer in your day bag.
Merzouga to Errachidia
An early start to climb a dune and watch the sun come up over the desert, then back down for breakfast at camp. On the way out of the dunes we stop in Khamlia, a village whose resident Gnawa musicians play a spiritual music tradition with West African roots, and share tea with a local nomadic family — a simple, unstaged visit. We drive back north through Rissani, the old trading town at the end of the historic caravan route, and follow the Ziz Valley to Errachidia, where we drop you at the airport or your hotel.

Frequently asked questions
Can you pick us up at Errachidia airport?
Yes. We can meet you at Errachidia airport or at your hotel in town. Send us your flight details when you book and your driver-guide will plan the day around your arrival.
How far is Merzouga from Errachidia?
It's a couple of hours by road, which is what makes Errachidia such a convenient starting point: you can land in the morning and still be on a camel in the dunes by sunset.
Is this a private tour?
Yes, fully private — your own vehicle and driver-guide for both days, with no other bookings joined onto yours.
Is the camel trek included, and can we skip it?
Yes, the sunset camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes is included. If riding isn't for you, we can take you into camp by 4x4 instead.
Which meals are included?
Dinner and breakfast at the desert camp are included. Lunches and drinks aren't.
Is one night in the desert enough?
One night gives you the sunset ride, an evening at camp and sunrise over the dunes, which is the core of the experience. If you'd like a full day around Merzouga as well, look at our 3-day desert tour from Errachidia.
Can we finish somewhere other than Errachidia?
Yes. If you're carrying on west, our Errachidia to Marrakech desert tour starts the same way and finishes in Marrakech instead.
What should we pack?
A warm layer for the night in camp, sun protection, a scarf for wind and sand, and comfortable shoes for climbing the dunes. A small overnight bag is easier on a camel than a large suitcase.
Do prices change with group size?
Yes — like all our private tours, the per-person rate drops as the group grows. Message us with your dates and group size for a quote.
