How to Plan a Custom Morocco Itinerary (Instead of Booking a Fixed Package)

A fixed-day package is a starting point, not a limit — here's how a custom, private Morocco itinerary actually gets built around what you want to see.

Most of the itineraries you'll see listed online, ours included, are templates rather than fixed packages — the real value of a private tour is how easily they get adjusted to fit you instead.

Why a fixed package is really just a starting point

Every listed itinerary, whether it's a 3-day desert loop or a 10-day imperial cities route, represents one workable version of a trip, not the only version. Behind it is a private driver-guide and a vehicle for just your group, which means the route, pace, and stops are never actually locked in the way a group bus tour's would be. When we build a custom itinerary, we usually start from one of these templates and adjust it, because it's faster than designing from a blank page, but nothing about the original version has to survive the conversation unchanged.

What can actually be added, removed, or swapped

Almost everything: the number of days, which cities anchor the trip, how many nights you spend in the desert versus the mountains, whether you want a coastal stop like Essaouira folded in, and the pace of each driving day. Requests we hear often include adding an extra night somewhere to avoid a long travel day, swapping a shared desert camp for a private one, or combining two of our listed itineraries into a single longer route. The one thing that doesn't change is the private-guide structure itself — it's what makes all the other adjustments possible.

Does a custom itinerary cost more than a fixed one?

Not inherently — a custom itinerary is priced on the same basis as any of our private tours: the vehicle, the driver-guide, the route, and the accommodation and activities you choose. A custom 7-day trip costs roughly what a listed 7-day trip costs, assuming similar accommodation choices; the price moves with the length and comfort level of the trip, not with the fact that it was customized. Where cost does shift is if you add extra activities, upgrade accommodation, or request a private desert camp instead of a shared one.

How to actually start the conversation

The easiest starting point is picking the listed itinerary closest to what you want and telling us what you'd change — more days, a different starting city, an extra stop, a different pace. It's also fine to start from scratch with rough constraints, such as dates, number of travelers, and must-see places, and let us propose a route. Either way, having a sense of your total trip length and priorities before the conversation starts — cities versus desert versus mountains — makes it much faster to land on a version that actually fits.

Frequently asked questions

Can I customize one of Through Morocco's listed itineraries?

Yes — the listed itineraries are starting points built on private tours, and days, stops, and pace can all be adjusted to fit your trip.

Does a custom Morocco itinerary cost more than a fixed one?

Not inherently. Pricing follows the length and comfort level of the trip rather than the fact that it was customized.

Can two different tour itineraries be combined into one trip?

Often, yes, especially if they share a region or route. It's worth asking directly, since the combined version may need some adjustment to flow well.

Can I add extra days to a fixed itinerary?

Yes, this is one of the most common requests, whether to slow the pace down or add a stop that wasn't in the original route.

Is a custom itinerary only for larger groups?

No — private tours, and the flexibility to customize them, work the same way for solo travelers, couples, and families as they do for larger groups.

How much notice do I need to give to plan a custom itinerary?

More notice gives more flexibility, particularly for peak season, but even a few weeks is usually workable for adjusting an existing route.

What information do I need to have ready before requesting a custom trip?

Rough dates, number of travelers, and your main priorities, such as cities, desert, or mountains, are the key starting points — everything else can be worked out from there.
